Records: Mentor 1-0, St. Ignatius 0-0

Last week: Mentor def. Canton McKinley, 34-21, St. Ignatius did not play

For the record: The pageantry for this one is exceptional because legendary St. Ignatius coach Chuck Kyle begins his 40th and final season against longtime non-conference nemesis Mentor at FirstEnergy Stadium. Ignatius’ opener against Springfield was cancelled because of lightning last weekend. Mentor looked sharp in a 13-point win over Canton McKinley. Sophomore Scotty Fox threw for three touchdowns and Mitchell Waite ran for two. Ignatius junior QB Joshua Papesh got good experience in a backup roll last year. He’s expected to lead the Wildcats in the opener. This is the 27th meeting between the two programs, with St. Ignatius holding a 14-12 advantage. Mentor won the regular-season matchup last year, 28-26, and St. Ignatius won the playoff rematch, 35-32.
