The Android tablet market continues to expand, with Xiaomi expected to release several new tablets before the end of the year. Rumoured to be launching under the Pad 6 series, Xiaomi may have a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra competitor planned, covered separately. In the meantime, Honor has unveiled the Tablet 8, a 12-inch tablet that could be mistaken for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 or a Xiaomi Pad 5.
Specifically, the Honor Tablet 8 has an IPS display that outputs at 2,000 x 1,200 pixels with a 195 PPI pixel density and 350 nits of peak brightness. While the Honor Tablet 8 has a higher resolution display than the Galaxy Tab S8 or the Xiaomi Pad 5, its pixel density is lower. Also, it operates at 60 Hz, not 120 Hz in the case of its rivals.
Additionally, the Honor Tablet 8 relies on the Snapdragon 680, a 6 nm SoC that only manages approximately half the performance of the Snapdragon 870 in the Xiaomi Pad 5. Separately, Honor equips all units with 128 GB of storage and a 7,250 mAh battery that supports 22.5 W fast charging. However, the tablet can be ordered with 4 GB, 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. For reference, the Honor Tablet 8 is available at the following prices in China. Moreover, Honor sells a detachable keyboard cover, priced at CNY 279 (~US$41).
Currently, the Honor Tablet 8 is orderable in Dawn Blue, Mint Green and Morning Sun Gold colour options. According to Honor, the 278.54 x 174.06 x 6.9 mm tablet ships with Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Honor will release the Tablet 8 elsewhere, with the tablet a Chinese exclusive for now.
