Truly new technology is unusual in capsule filling machines, but from a demo I witnessed at the AAPS show this week, I think the SeJong SF-40 qualifies. A fully automatic capsule filling and closing machine, the SF-40 is suitable for research, development, and small production facilities. Rated at 40,000 capsules per hour, the SF-40 is popular in health food and pharmaceutical industries since it can fill capsules with any combination of powder, pellets, and tablets.

"What sets the SF-40 apart," said CapPlus national sales manager Thomas Nelson, "is it uses intermittent tamping, which gives the machine five opportunities to apply the needed weight, which in turn allows us to guarantee filling weight to plus or minus one percent. That kind of accuracy means you don't have to add a lot of stuff [excipients] to your active to get it to work with our machine."

CapPlus offers five encapsulating machines working in the 3,000 to 150,000 capsules per hour range. The company also offers tablet presses, polishers, inspection machines, channel counters, 1, 5, & 10 CF V-blenders, liquid fillers, softgelmachines, and packaging lines.

CapPlus, the only U.S. distributor of SeJong filling machines, prides itself on service. "We have a complete parts inventory and readily available technical support," Nelson told Pharmaceutical Online.

While at AAPS, visit CapPlus at booths 321-322.
