For some races that could be hot in the fall, there were no contests in Tuesday’s primaries in Vermont, Connecticut, Minnesota and Wisconsin. But voters were filling a House vacancy representing Minnesota for the rest of the year, and could be setting the stage for Vermont to be the last state to send at a woman to Congress.

Here’s a rundown of what happened in key races:

The Philadelphia Phillies take a 1-0 lead into the next game of the series against the New York Mets.

Carlos Rodon allowed two runs over six innings, Mike Yastrzemski drove in three runs and the San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3. Just 7-14 since the All-Star break, the Giants snapped a four-game losing streak at home as they try to stay within striking distance of the postseason. At 55-57, they’re 7 ½ games behind the San Diego Padres for the National League’s third and final wild-card spot.  Rodon (11-6) gave up six hits, struck out seven and didn’t allow a walk. His 2.95 ERA is tied for ninth in the league.

Lacrosse is one of nine sports trying to gain inclusion into the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. To make the game invented centuries ago by the Native Americans even more fast-paced, the leaders came up with a version called “Sixes.” It features 6-on-6 competition, a 30-second shot clock and goalies starting play after scores instead of faceoffs. There’s also a smaller field and roster sizes are reduced. It’s designed to be more Olympic friendly. That sort of approach helped get rugby sevens into the 2016 Rio Games and 3-on-3 basketball into the Tokyo Games last summer.

Chicago plays the Phoenix Mercury after Kahleah Copper scored 28 points in the Sky's 89-78 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. The teams meet Sunday for the third time this season. Phoenix is 11-6 at home, and Chicago is 11-6 on the road.

Indiana will aim to break its nine-game road skid when the Fever visit Washington. Sunday's game is the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams. The Mystics won the last matchup 82-70. Washington is 10-7 against the Eastern Conference, and Indiana is 2-15 against conference opponents.

Sunday's game will be the fourth meeting this season between the two teams. The Liberty won the previous matchup 80-70. New York is 9-8 against the Eastern Conference, and Atlanta is 5-12 against conference opponents.

Nneka Ogwumike and Arike Ogunbowale meet in a matchup of two of the league's top scorers when Los Angeles and Dallas hit the court. Sunday's game is the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams. The Sparks won the previous matchup 97-89. Los Angeles is 6-11 against the Western Conference, and Dallas is 7-10 against conference opponents.

Connecticut will look for its 25th win this season when the Sun take on the Minnesota Lynx. The teams meet Sunday for the third time this season. Connecticut is 12-5 at home, and Minnesota is 7-10 on the road.

Kelsey Plum and Breanna Stewart square off in a matchup of two of the league's best scorers when Las Vegas and Seattle hit the court. Sunday's meeting will be the fourth of the season between the two teams. Las Vegas is 14-3 against the Western Conference, and Seattle is 10-7 against conference opponents.

The Seattle Sounders host Real Salt Lake in conference play.

Nashville faces Minnesota United in a conference matchup.

SAN FRANCISCO — For most of Friday night, it seemed, Mike Yastrzemski was doing one of two things: driving runs in, or watching them leave the yard.

Gio Urshela had his 11th home run of the season among his three hits, Tyler Mahle pitched three-hit ball over six innings and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-0. Gilberto Celestino also went deep for the Twins, who had dropped six of their last seven road games. The Angels returned home from a 5-2 road trip, including a three-game sweep of Oakland, but were blanked for the 11th time this season. David Fletcher had a pair of hits and Patrick Sandoval suffered his sixth loss in his last seven starts.
